BMR Calculator — Basal Metabolic Rate
Your BMR is the energy your body uses at complete rest to keep you alive — breathing, circulation and cell repair. It is the starting point for working out daily calorie needs.

Formula
Men: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age + 5
Women: BMR = 10 × weight (kg) + 6.25 × height (cm) − 5 × age − 161
The Mifflin–St Jeor equation is widely regarded as one of the most accurate simple BMR formulas for adults.
Examples
Man, 30, 70 kg, 5 ft 7 in
Your BMR is about 1,619 calories per day
Woman, 35, 62 kg, 160 cm
Your BMR is about 1,284 calories per day
Important information
- BMR falls slightly with age and rises with muscle mass.
- These results are general estimates for healthy adults and are not medical advice. Children, pregnant or breastfeeding women, athletes and people with medical conditions should seek professional guidance.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?
BMR is calories burned at rest. TDEE adds the calories you burn through daily activity and exercise.
Should I eat less than my BMR to lose weight?
Generally no. Eating below BMR for long periods can be unhealthy; create a moderate deficit from your TDEE instead.
How accurate is the formula?
For most adults it is within about 10% of measured values, but individuals vary.
