Formula
Financed amount = Car price − Down payment
Instalment = L × r × (1 + r)ⁿ ÷ ((1 + r)ⁿ − 1)
r is the monthly markup rate and n the number of months.
Examples
Rs 45 lakh car, 30% down, 18%, 5 years
Monthly instalment: Rs 79,989 for 60 months on a Rs 3,150,000 loan
Rs 30 lakh car, 40% down, 17%, 3 years
Monthly instalment: Rs 64,175 for 36 months on a Rs 1,800,000 loan
Important information
- State Bank of Pakistan rules cap auto-finance tenure and set a minimum down payment — check your bank's current terms.
- Banks also charge yearly comprehensive insurance (often 1.5–3% of the car's value), which is not included here.
Frequently asked questions
What is the maximum car loan tenure?
Banks usually offer up to 3–5 years, subject to State Bank of Pakistan limits.
Is markup fixed or variable?
Both exist. Variable markup is linked to KIBOR; fixed costs more at the start but protects you from rate rises.
Should I pay a bigger down payment?
If you can, yes — it lowers both the instalment and the total markup.
Does the instalment include insurance and registration?
No. Add insurance, token tax and registration separately.
