r = annual return ÷ 12 ÷ 100, n = months

Assumes monthly compounding and deposits made at the end of each month.

Frequently asked questions

How much will I have if I save Rs 10,000 a month?

Over 10 years at 12% a year (compounded monthly), about Rs 23 lakh, of which Rs 12 lakh is your own deposits.

What return should I expect?

It depends on where you save — bank savings accounts, National Savings, mutual funds and stocks carry very different returns and risks.

Does this include tax?

No. Withholding tax on profit reduces the final amount.

What is a committee?

A rotating savings group where members contribute monthly and each receives the pot once. It is useful for discipline but earns no return.
