Scientific Calculator
A full scientific calculator in your browser — the same functions as a Casio fx-82 or fx-991 for everyday maths, physics and engineering work.
Updated
Tip: you can also type with your keyboard — press Enter for =, Esc to clear. Use ^ for powers, e.g. 2^10.
About this calculator
Tap the keys or type with your keyboard. The answer previews as you type; press = or Enter to keep it, and use Ans to carry it into the next calculation.
Formula
Order of operations: brackets → powers (^) → × and ÷ → + and −
Expressions follow standard BODMAS/PEMDAS rules, so 2 + 3 × 4 = 14. A minus sign in front of a power applies after the power: −2² = −4, while (−2)² = 4.
Implied multiplication works too: 2π, 3(4 + 5) and 2sin(30) are all valid.
Examples
sin(30°)
In Deg mode, sin(30) = 0.5.
Powers and roots
2^10 = 1024 · √(144) = 12 · ∛(27) = 3
Logs
log(1000) = 3 · ln(e) = 1
Factorial
5! = 120
Reference table
| Type | Does |
|---|---|
| + − * / | Add, subtract, multiply, divide |
| ^ | Power, e.g. 3^4 |
| sqrt( or √( | Square root |
| sin( cos( tan( | Trigonometry (uses the Deg/Rad setting) |
| log( ln( | Base-10 and natural logarithm |
| ! % | Factorial, percent (÷100) |
| pi, e, Ans | Constants and the previous answer |
| Enter / Esc | Calculate / clear |
Important information
- Check the Deg/Rad indicator before trig calculations — school problems usually use degrees, calculus uses radians.
- Results show up to 12 significant digits; very large or small values switch to scientific notation (e.g. 6.02e23).
Frequently asked questions
How do I switch between degrees and radians?
Tap the Deg/Rad key. The current mode is shown at the top of the display.
How do I calculate a power like 5 cubed?
Type 5^3 (or tap 5, xʸ, 3) and press =. For a square, use the x² key.
What does Ans do?
Ans holds the last answer. After pressing =, typing an operator such as + automatically continues from Ans.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The keypad is sized for touch screens, and the calculator works offline once the page has loaded.
Why is −3² equal to −9?
Powers are calculated before the minus sign, as in standard maths notation. Use (−3)² to square negative three.
