Formula

Future cost = Amount × (1 + inflation)^years

Buying power = Amount ÷ (1 + inflation)^years

The calculation compounds yearly, like inflation itself.

Examples

  • Rs 1 lakh, 10% for 10 years

Rs 100,000 today will cost Rs 259,374 in 10 years at 10% inflation

  • Rs 50,000 school fee, 12% for 5 years

Rs 50,000 today will cost Rs 88,117 in 5 years at 12% inflation

Important information

  • Pakistan's inflation has swung widely — from single digits to over 30% (CPI, 2023) — so try a few rates to see a range.
  • If your savings earn less than inflation, their real value is shrinking.
