About this calculator

Gold and silver prices are pre-filled with recent Pakistan market rates. Replace them with today's rate from your local sarafa market for an exact figure.

Formula

Net wealth = Zakatable assets − Debts due

Zakat = Net wealth × 2.5% (if net wealth ≥ nisab)

Nisab = 52.5 tola silver or 7.5 tola gold

Many scholars recommend the silver nisab because it is lower, so more people pay and the poor benefit more. A tola is 11.66 grams.

Examples

  • Rs 3 lakh cash + 5 tola gold

Zakat due: Rs 62,500 (2.5% of Rs 2,500,000)

  • Rs 50,000 cash only

No zakat due — your net wealth Rs 50,000 is below the nisab of Rs 341,250

Important information

  • Banks in Pakistan deduct zakat automatically from savings accounts on 1 Ramadan unless you have submitted a CZ-50 declaration.
  • Your home, car, furniture and household items for personal use are not zakatable.

Views differ: the Hanafi school, followed by most in Pakistan, counts gold and silver jewellery; some other schools exempt jewellery in regular use.

When is zakat due?

When your wealth has stayed at or above nisab for one full lunar year (hawl). Many people calculate it in Ramadan.
