AC Electricity Consumption Calculator
Air conditioning is the biggest summer electricity cost for most homes. Pick your AC size and type, set the hours you run it, and see the monthly units and cost.

Formula
Units/month = Average watts × Hours/day × Days ÷ 1000
Inverter AC presets use an average running power, which is lower than the maximum on the label. Actual use depends on room size, insulation, outside temperature and thermostat setting.
Examples
1.5 ton non-inverter, 8 h/day
AC 1.5 ton (non-inverter): 408 units/month ≈ Rs 22,440
1.5 ton inverter, 8 h/day
AC 1.5 ton (inverter, average): 228 units/month ≈ Rs 12,540
Two 1 ton inverters, 10 h/day
2 × AC 1 ton (inverter, average): 390 units/month ≈ Rs 21,450
Important information
- Setting the thermostat to 26 °C instead of 22 °C can noticeably reduce consumption.
- Clean filters and a shaded outdoor unit help efficiency in Pakistani summers.
- Electricity tariffs in Pakistan change often and depend on your DISCO (LESCO, IESCO, K-Electric, MEPCO, etc.), monthly slab, protected/unprotected status, fuel price adjustment and taxes. That is why the rate is always an input — pre-filled with an example of Rs 55 per unit.
- To find your real all-in rate, divide the total amount on your latest bill by the units consumed.
- Since 2026, domestic bills also include a fixed monthly charge based on sanctioned load (kW), in addition to the per-unit charge — add it as a fixed charge in the bill estimator.
Frequently asked questions
How many units does a 1.5 ton AC use per hour?
A non-inverter 1.5 ton AC uses about 1.5–1.8 units per hour while the compressor runs. An inverter model averages roughly 0.8–1.1 units per hour once the room is cool.
How many units does an AC use per month?
A 1.5 ton non-inverter AC run 8 hours a day uses roughly 400 units a month; an inverter model around 230 units. Real figures vary a lot.
Is a DC inverter AC worth it?
If you run the AC many hours a day, the savings usually repay the higher price within a few summers.
What does 'ton' mean for an AC?
Cooling capacity: 1 ton = 12,000 BTU per hour. It is not the same as power consumption.
