Solar Savings & Payback Calculator

Is solar worth it for you? Enter the system size and price, and your electricity rate, to estimate monthly savings and payback period.

Example rate. Divide the total of your last bill by the units used to get your real rate.

hours/day

Most of Pakistan averages about 5–6 peak sun hours a day over the year.

%

Accounts for heat, dust, wiring and inverter losses.

%

Lower this if a lot of daytime generation is wasted or exported at a low buy-back rate.

Rs 65,340 / month

A 10 kW system could save about Rs 65,340 per month; payback in 1.9 years

  • Net-metering and buy-back rules have changed in recent years; check current NEPRA/DISCO policy before relying on export credits.
  • Ignores panel degradation, maintenance and future tariff changes.

Results are estimates for planning. Actual figures depend on local conditions, prices and quotes — verify before making decisions.

Formula

Monthly units = kW × Sun hours × Efficiency × 30

Savings = Units × Share used × Rate per unit

Payback (years) = System cost ÷ Annual savings

Only the energy you actually use (or get credited for) saves money. Lower the 'share used' if a lot of generation is wasted or exported at a low buy-back rate.

Examples

  • 5 kW for Rs 8 lakh

A 5 kW system could save about Rs 32,670 per month; payback in 2 years

  • 10 kW for Rs 15 lakh

A 10 kW system could save about Rs 65,340 per month; payback in 1.9 years

Important information

  • Higher electricity rates shorten payback; falling panel prices also help.
  • Batteries add cost and reduce payback speed but provide backup during load-shedding.
  • Panels typically lose around 0.5% output per year.

Frequently asked questions

How long does solar take to pay back in Pakistan?

With today's high electricity rates many on-grid systems pay back in roughly 2–4 years, but it depends on cost, rate, usage and export rules.

Do I save money during load-shedding?

An on-grid system without batteries switches off during outages, so it generates nothing then.

What maintenance does solar need?

Regular panel cleaning (dust reduces output), checking connections, and inverter care.
