Fan Electricity Consumption Calculator

Fans run for long hours in Pakistani homes, so their units add up. Compare a regular ceiling fan with an energy-saving DC inverter fan.

  • Air conditioners, fridges and freezers cycle on and off, so average draw is lower than the label maximum. Inverter models vary most with temperature and thermostat setting.
  • Tariffs change with slabs, fuel adjustments and taxes, so check your latest bill for your actual rate per unit.

Formula

Units/month = Watts × Number of fans × Hours/day × Days ÷ 1000

DC inverter fans use roughly half the power of conventional AC-motor ceiling fans at the same speed.

Examples

  • 5 ceiling fans, 12 h/day

    5 × Ceiling fan (AC motor): 144 units/month ≈ Rs 7,920

  • 5 DC inverter fans, 12 h/day

    5 × Ceiling fan (DC inverter): 63 units/month ≈ Rs 3,465

  • Air cooler, 10 h/day

    Air cooler: 60 units/month ≈ Rs 3,300

Important information

  • Older fans with worn capacitors or bearings can draw more than their rating.
  • Electricity tariffs in Pakistan change often and depend on your DISCO (LESCO, IESCO, K-Electric, MEPCO, etc.), monthly slab, protected/unprotected status, fuel price adjustment and taxes. That is why the rate is always an input — pre-filled with an example of Rs 55 per unit.
  • To find your real all-in rate, divide the total amount on your latest bill by the units consumed.
  • Since 2026, domestic bills also include a fixed monthly charge based on sanctioned load (kW), in addition to the per-unit charge — add it as a fixed charge in the bill estimator.

Frequently asked questions

How many watts does a ceiling fan use?

Conventional ceiling fans typically use 70–100 W at full speed; DC inverter fans use about 30–40 W.

How much can I save with DC fans?

Replacing five 80 W fans with 35 W DC fans for 12 hours a day saves about 81 units a month.

Does fan speed affect consumption?

Yes — lower speeds use less power, especially on DC fans. Old-style regulators save less than electronic ones.
