Formula

Revenue = Area × Yield × Price + By-product income

Total cost = Area × Cost per acre

Profit = Revenue − Total cost

Profit per acre = Profit ÷ Area

Cost per maund (cost of production) = Total cost ÷ Production. Comparing it with the market price shows your margin per maund.

Examples

  • Wheat, 1 acre

Estimated profit: Rs 48,500 on 1 acre (Rs 48,500 per acre)

  • Maize, 5 acres

Estimated profit: Rs 315,000 (3.15 lakh) on 5 acre (Rs 63,000 per acre)

Important information

  • All outputs are estimates for planning. Real results depend on variety, sowing date, soil, water, weather, pests and management.
  • Default prices and costs are examples only — replace them with this season's prices from your local market and dealers.
  • 1 maund = 40 kg. Areas can be entered in acres, kanal (1/8 acre) or hectares.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate crop profit per acre?

Multiply yield (maund/acre) by price per maund, add any by-product income, and subtract all costs per acre.

What costs should I include?

Land preparation, seed, fertilizer, sprays, irrigation (canal water charges, diesel or electricity), labour, harvesting/threshing, transport, and land rent if leased.

What is cost of production per maund?

Total cost divided by total maunds produced. If it is higher than the market price, the crop loses money at that yield.

How do I reduce my cost per maund?

Increase yield (timely sowing, balanced fertilizer, good seed) or cut costs that do not add yield.
