About this calculator

Pick a grading scale that matches your university, or choose 'Enter points' to type grade points straight from your result card.

Formula

Quality points = Credit hours × Grade points

Semester GPA = Σ Quality points ÷ Σ Credit hours

CGPA = (Previous CGPA × Previous credits + Semester quality points) ÷ Total credits

CGPA is a credit-weighted average: a 4-credit course counts twice as much as a 2-credit course.

Examples

  • One semester

    Calculus (3 cr, A = 4.0), Physics (4 cr, B+ = 3.33), English (2 cr, A- = 3.67): quality points = 12 + 13.32 + 7.34 = 32.66; credits = 9; GPA = 32.66 ÷ 9 = 3.63.

  • Updating CGPA

    Previous CGPA 3.20 over 60 credits, new semester GPA 3.63 over 9 credits: CGPA = (3.20 × 60 + 32.66) ÷ 69 = 3.26.

Important information

  • Pakistani universities do not all use the same grading scale. Percentage cut-offs and grade points differ — for example, some universities award A at 85%, others at 80% or 90%.
  • Choose from 3 built-in scales, or enter grade points directly from your transcript for an exact result.
  • Repeated or improved courses may replace the old grade in some universities — follow your university's rules when entering courses.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA usually refers to a single semester. CGPA (cumulative GPA) averages all semesters so far, weighted by credit hours.

How do I calculate CGPA from semester GPAs?

Multiply each semester GPA by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by total credit hours. Simply averaging GPAs is only correct if every semester has the same credits.

What is a good CGPA in Pakistan?

Above 3.0 is generally considered good and above 3.5 excellent. Many scholarships and postgraduate programmes ask for at least 2.5–3.0.

Do non-credit courses count?

No. Courses with zero credit hours (or pass/fail courses) don't affect GPA.

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

There is no single national formula. Use your university's stated method, or our CGPA to percentage calculator for the simple proportional estimate.

Does an F grade count in CGPA?

Yes. An F usually carries 0 points but its credit hours still count, pulling the average down until the course is repeated (depending on your university's policy).
