Result

570 / 650

You need 570 out of 650 (87.69%) to reach 80%

87.69%
Current percentage
68.89%
Highest possible overall
87.27%

Formula

Needed = Target % × (Marks so far + Remaining) ÷ 100 − Obtained

If 'Needed' is more than the remaining marks, the target is not reachable; if it is zero or less, you've already secured it.

Examples

  • 310/450 so far, 650 remaining, target 80%

You need 570 out of 650 (87.69%) to reach 80%

  • 40/50 sessionals, 50 final, target 70%

You need 30 out of 50 (60%) to reach 70%

Important information

  • Make sure 'total so far' and 'remaining' add up to the full total for the course or exam.
  • Rounding rules (e.g. 79.5% rounding to 80%) vary — aim slightly above the target.

Frequently asked questions

How many marks do I need to get 80%?

Multiply 0.8 by the grand total, then subtract the marks you already have. That is how many you need from the remaining papers.

What if the result says 'not reachable'?

Even full marks in the remaining exams cannot get you to the target. The calculator shows the highest overall percentage still possible.

Is this different from the final grade calculator?

Yes — this one uses marks. The final grade calculator uses your current percentage and the final exam's weight.
