  • Check your institution's rule: some count attendance per course, others per semester.

Formula

Attendance % = Attended ÷ Held × 100

Can miss = ⌊Attended ÷ Required − Held⌋

Must attend = ⌈(Required × Held − Attended) ÷ (1 − Required)⌉

'Required' is used as a fraction (75% = 0.75). The formulas assume every future class you attend or miss is added to the total held.

Examples

  • 48 of 60 classes, 75% required

Attendance 80% — you can miss 4 more classes and stay at 75%

  • 40 of 60 classes, 75% required

Attendance 66.67% — attend the next 20 classes in a row to reach 75%

  • 70 of 80 classes, 80% required

Attendance 87.5% — you can miss 7 more classes and stay at 80%

Important information

  • Check whether your institution counts attendance per course or overall, and whether medical leave is excluded.
  • Labs often have separate, stricter attendance rules.
